Cookie Policy

Last updated: March 1, 2025

1. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files that are placed on your computer, tablet, smartphone, or other device when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites function efficiently, to improve user experience, and to provide information to website operators. Cookies are stored by your web browser and are sent back to the originating website on each subsequent visit, or to any other website that recognises that cookie.

In addition to traditional cookies, we also use related technologies including:

  • Web beacons (pixel tags): Tiny images embedded in web pages or emails that allow us to track whether a page has been viewed or an email has been opened.
  • Local storage: Browser-based storage mechanisms (such as localStorage and sessionStorage) that allow web applications to store data locally on your device beyond the session.
  • Device fingerprinting: A method of identifying devices based on combinations of device attributes (browser type, operating system, screen resolution, etc.) without relying solely on cookies.
  • JavaScript tags: Our inter.js SDK, deployed on merchant storefronts, uses JavaScript to observe behavioral events and may interact with browser storage mechanisms.

Together, we refer to all of these as "cookies" throughout this policy for simplicity, unless the context requires otherwise.

2. Why We Use Cookies

Madewithinter uses cookies and similar technologies for a range of purposes, including:

  • Platform operation: To authenticate your login session, maintain your preferences, and ensure the platform functions correctly across page loads and visits.
  • Security: To detect fraudulent activity, prevent unauthorised access, and protect both our users and our platform infrastructure.
  • Personalization: To remember your settings, preferred language, and other choices so you do not need to re-enter them on each visit.
  • Analytics and performance: To understand how visitors interact with our website and platform, which features are most used, and where we can improve the user experience.
  • Marketing and retargeting: To deliver relevant advertising about our Services to you across the web, and to measure the effectiveness of our marketing campaigns.
  • Personalization engine (on merchant storefronts): Our inter.js SDK sets cookies on behalf of merchant customers to power real-time product recommendations and behavioral analytics for their end-users.

3. Categories of Cookies We Use

3.1 Strictly Necessary Cookies

These cookies are essential for the operation of our website and platform. Without these cookies, services you have requested — such as logging in to your account or accessing secure areas — cannot be provided. Because these cookies are strictly necessary, they do not require your consent under applicable law, though we still disclose them here for transparency. You can block these cookies by changing your browser settings, but this will affect how our website and platform function.

3.2 Functional Cookies

Functional cookies allow us to remember choices you make (such as your language preference, dashboard layout, or notification settings) and provide enhanced, personalised features. The information these cookies collect may be anonymised and they cannot track your browsing activity on other websites. These cookies are set on the basis of our legitimate interest or, where required, your consent.

3.3 Analytics and Performance Cookies

We use analytics cookies to collect information about how visitors use our website — for instance, which pages are visited most often and whether users receive error messages. The data collected is aggregated and anonymised and does not identify individual users. We use this information to improve our website and Services. These cookies are set on the basis of your consent (where required) or our legitimate interest in improving our Services.

3.4 Marketing and Targeting Cookies

Marketing cookies are used to track visitors across websites. They are used to display advertisements that are relevant to you and aligned with your interests. They also help us to limit the number of times you see an advertisement, and measure the effectiveness of our marketing campaigns. These cookies are set by us or our advertising partners. They require your consent before being placed, which you can provide or withdraw through our cookie consent banner.

This cookie inventory reflects our current cookie usage as of the last updated date above. New cookies may be added, and existing cookies may be modified or removed as we update our platform and services. We will update this table to reflect such changes.

5. Third-Party Cookies and Services

Some cookies on our website and platform are set by third-party services that we have integrated to help operate and improve our Services. These third parties have their own privacy and cookie policies, which govern their use of data collected through their cookies. We encourage you to review these policies:

  • Google Analytics: We use Google Analytics to measure website traffic and user behaviour. Google Analytics uses cookies to collect aggregated usage data. You can learn more about Google's privacy practices at policies.google.com/privacy and opt out of Google Analytics tracking using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
  • Hotjar: We use Hotjar for website analytics, heatmaps, and session recordings to understand how users interact with our site. You can opt out of Hotjar tracking at hotjar.com/legal/compliance/opt-out.
  • HubSpot: We use HubSpot for CRM, marketing automation, and lead tracking. HubSpot's privacy policy is available at legal.hubspot.com/privacy-policy.
  • LinkedIn: We use the LinkedIn Insight Tag for advertising and conversion tracking on LinkedIn. LinkedIn's cookie policy is available at linkedin.com/legal/cookie-policy.

We do not have control over third-party cookies set by these services and cannot guarantee their accuracy or completeness. The presence of third-party cookies is subject to change as these services update their technologies.

6. How to Manage Cookies

6.1 Cookie Consent Banner

When you first visit our website, you will be presented with a cookie consent banner. This banner allows you to accept all cookies, decline non-essential cookies, or customise your preferences by category. You can update your preferences at any time by clicking the "Cookie Preferences" link in the footer of our website.

Your consent choices are stored in the inter_consent cookie for 12 months. After this period, you will be asked to review your preferences again. Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of any processing carried out before the withdrawal.

6.2 Browser Settings

Most web browsers allow you to control cookies through their settings. You can typically set your browser to: refuse all cookies; accept only first-party cookies; alert you when a cookie is placed; or delete all existing cookies. Instructions for managing cookies in common browsers are available at:

  • Google Chrome: support.google.com/chrome/answer/95647
  • Mozilla Firefox: support.mozilla.org — Firefox cookie settings
  • Apple Safari: support.apple.com — Safari cookie settings
  • Microsoft Edge: support.microsoft.com — Edge cookie settings

Please note that browser-level cookie management may not align precisely with our consent categories. For the most reliable experience, we recommend using our in-platform Cookie Preferences tool in addition to browser-level controls.

6.3 Third-Party Opt-Out Tools

In addition to the controls above, you can opt out of certain analytics and advertising cookies through industry opt-out programmes:

  • Network Advertising Initiative (NAI): optout.networkadvertising.org
  • Digital Advertising Alliance (DAA): optout.aboutads.info
  • European Interactive Digital Advertising Alliance (EDAA): youronlinechoices.eu
  • Google Analytics Opt-out: tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout
  • Hotjar Opt-out: hotjar.com/legal/compliance/opt-out

7. Impact of Disabling Cookies

While you are free to disable or block cookies, doing so may affect the functionality and performance of our website and platform. The specific impacts depend on which category of cookies you disable:

  • Strictly Necessary: Disabling these cookies will prevent you from logging in to the Madewithinter dashboard and will break core platform functionality. We do not recommend blocking these cookies.
  • Functional: Disabling functional cookies means your preferences, settings, and layout choices will not be saved between sessions. You will need to re-configure your preferences on each visit.
  • Analytics: Disabling analytics cookies will not affect your ability to use the platform, but it will limit our ability to understand how the Services are used and to make improvements based on usage patterns.
  • Marketing: Disabling marketing cookies means you will still see advertisements for our Services, but they will be less relevant to your interests and browsing behaviour. You will also no longer benefit from retargeting-based offers.
  • SDK cookies on merchant storefronts: If you are a shopper visiting a merchant storefront that uses our SDK, blocking our first-party cookies (such as inter_vid) will prevent the personalization engine from recognising you as a returning visitor, which means you will receive generic rather than personalised recommendations.

8. Cookie Consent Mechanism

We implement a consent management platform on our website in compliance with the UK Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR), the UK GDPR, and the EU GDPR. Our consent mechanism is designed to meet the following standards:

  • Freely given: Consent is not bundled with acceptance of terms of service. You may continue to use basic website functionality without accepting non-essential cookies.
  • Specific: Consent is requested separately for each category of non-essential cookies (functional, analytics, marketing).
  • Informed: The consent banner provides a clear description of each cookie category and links to this full Cookie Policy.
  • Unambiguous: Consent is obtained through a clear affirmative action (clicking "Accept" or toggling category switches to "on"). We do not treat scrolling, page closure, or pre-ticked boxes as consent.
  • Withdrawable: You can withdraw consent at any time with the same ease as granting it, by accessing Cookie Preferences in our website footer.
  • Documented: We maintain records of consent provided, including the timestamp, consent choices made, and the version of the policy in effect at the time of consent.

9. Cookies and the Madewithinter SDK

Our inter.js SDK is deployed by merchant customers on their e-commerce storefronts to enable behavioral analytics and AI personalization. When you visit a storefront that uses our SDK, the following applies:

  • The merchant is the data controller for cookies set by our SDK on their domain, and is responsible for obtaining appropriate consents from their shoppers under applicable law.
  • Our SDK is designed to respect consent signals passed to it by the merchant's consent management platform. If a merchant has implemented a consent mechanism, our SDK will suppress non-essential cookie placement until consent is obtained.
  • Merchants are contractually required under our Terms of Service to obtain and manage appropriate cookie consents before deploying our SDK on storefronts where consent is legally required.
  • If you are a shopper with questions about cookies on a merchant's storefront, please contact that merchant directly and refer to their privacy and cookie policy.

10. Updates to This Cookie Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our use of cookies, changes in technology, or changes in applicable law. When we make changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For material changes to how we use cookies or to which cookies we deploy, we will also reset existing consent records and re-display our cookie consent banner to collect fresh consent where required.

We encourage you to review this Cookie Policy periodically so you are always informed about our current cookie practices.
